Capri

We are starting our day to Capri which was a famous vacation hideaway of Roman emperors Augustus and Tiberius. In the 19th century it was for the Romantic Age aristocrats and  later for the artsy gay community. Home now to about 13,000 people.
Wendy is looking over the edge of how far we have to climb down to get to the ferry from Sorrento.

                                                     leaving Sorrento on the Ferry.

Map of Capri

We rented a boat and off we went down the south coast of the island traveling west.  It was too rough to go to the Blue Grotto.  Had we been able to enter it we would have gone in a 4 person dinghy awaiting the swells to ebb sufficiently to drop under the limestone lintel.

Alesandro took good care of us.

You can see the coral just under the surface.
Heading in the direction our pilot chose kept us in the lee.  We were able to enter another beautiful grotto and a tunnel through the pinnacles.  It was a spectacular voyage that exceeded our expectations.

It is rough coming back into port. On the left we are looking down onto the bay of Capri.

We have taken the Funicular to the top. Hoping to get to Anacapri but it is too cloudy to see anything. So we now decide to walk down to the bay and take our live in our hands!!!

A view of the bay with the notable Faraglioni rocks.

The two clowns across the bay......I had to zoom to get them!

These are the bells of Capri. The story of a Sheppard that thought he had lost his lamb but the bell of San Michele' lucky Bell brings him luck and success.
Ciao :-)
