We go by peach trees.
Rogers using our sink. Likes our room better since it has a bathroom and a sink.

Roller Dam- As water flows over the top it hits a baffle which brings the water back onto the water coming and creates a roller affect.  This saves  on the erosion down the bank.
Traveling down the river.  Nahnie opened her mouth about the mooners in the rafts on the river as we traveled by.  I then got to explain it to my 11 year old grandson. Way to go Nahnie.......
I then had to show him what I meant!  The conductor came on the announcement and said we had offically been mooned 26 times today.
Not quite like our mountains but close...
Coming into Denver
We passed through Nebraska, Iowa, crossed the Mississippi again and back to Chicago.  We did eleven states in all once we landed in Chicago but we started in MA, then to NH to VT and back to the plane in NH.= 14 states on this trip!

So we have come to an end of our trip.  I hope you have enjoyed the information and the pictures.
We had a great time and I know the kids had fun.
See you on the next trip.

Across the country Day 12-Canyonlands-Dead Horse

Day 12 - Canyonlands- dead horse- grand junction

A few facts about Utah.. 45th state- Butch Cassidy's hide out was here--41 State Parks--12 National Parks- 65% of the land is Federally owned- 26% of the population is under 18 making Utah the youngest state in the country-- $48,000 is the average income which all boils down to a very thriving state.

Canyonlands has 337,000 acres and was declared a park by President Johnson in 1964,

The Colorado and the Green River come together just south of this area.  There are 4 parts to this area. 1. Island in the Sky which has the most people, 2. The Needles -second most populated 3. Maze- most remote and 4. the Rivers together

Our boys with Isaac who was also in our tour group.

The temperature on the ground is 25 degrees hotter than the air temp.

Not where I want to stand.

That is a long way down there....

Grand View Point- Dead Horse Park.  This was known for stolen horses that were lead here and they died because the thieves were killed and no one knew the horses were here.  so sad

I love the white caps on these rocks.

These are Potash Pools which are harvested for salt

We are looking down 1200 feet. It can't be climbed because it is straight down.

On our way home for the night.

We are staying in the Double Tree by Hilton in Grand Junction. Our last night before the train ride to Chicago. Laundry time

It is breath taking no matter where you look. The Canyonlands was a new place for me that I haven't been to.
See you in Grand Junction
