Day 2 Jerusalem Saturday Feb. 25 2023

I am going to talk about my day as i can’t seem to get my picture to get onto this blog correctly and I can’t move them.  The ipad is a different animal, so bare with me

Yesterday we say the walls that were built to keep the people in to pay more taxes and to keep unwanted people out. The Zion gate is at a 90 degree angle so that horses with carriages can’t turn and neither can the cars coming through!

Today we are going to the Holy ground.  We started with a visit to the Mount of Olives. Named for olive groves that once covered its slopes and now holds about 150,000 graves.  For me, I so wished David could have been with me. He would have been able to tell me a better order.  He understood the Bible which I don’t.

We were looking down at the Golden gate.that enters into the walled area. This area is divided into the Christian, Armenian Jewish, and Muslim quarters.  From there we journeyed onto the Church of All Nations or the Gethsemane Basilica of Agony.  This is where Jesus prayed before he was arrested.

In the afternoon DEb, Chris, Evelyn and I explored the wall and the shops with in.  You aren’t allowed into the Armenian quarters unless you are Armenian. We climbed up to the top of the wall and walked about 1/3 of the wall because we ran out of time before closing.

Day 1 Jerusalem and Bethlhem Feb 23/24 2023

Hi all, I am having trouble making my blog put in the pictures that I have wanted to share.  I can’t seem to make them go in order or crop the way I would like them, so bare with me.

We arrived in Tel Aviv around 9:00 in the morning.  Not much sleep but that is normal for a 11 hr flight. But the good news is that I was in Business class and had a bed.  I don’t think I can ever go back to economy on a long flight again. The three pictures above are arriving. The land is a little hilly with the city poking up in the background.  We traveled about an hour from the airport to the beautiful King David Hotel in Jerusalem.  Not really warm out in the 40’s.

We walked around town before having dinner just to get a sense of the area. We went by shops that had menorah 7, 8 or 9 candles to it.  So I had to find out what that meant.  7 candles is for the week used in ancient time, 9 is for Passover and 8 has another candle places outside. The next picture is a gasman’s nightmare!  And the third picture is taken at the American embassy. They were quite upset with us taking a picture.  The placque states that Donald Trump was president.  It is here because the embassy was moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The walk down the room of the last supper where Jesus said “one of you will betray me.” Jesus was asked where will this room be and he said follow the man that will be carrying two jugs of milk and that is where we will have our last supper. The rooom is on the left.  We also had to split ourselves into men and woman and go to the tomb of David.

This is Mihrab built in the 16th century . This is where the last supper took place. Also known as the Cenacle.  A room in Mount Zion in Jerusalem just outside the o
Old City walls.  The place located on the upper floor of King David’s Tomb.

The church of St Peter in Gallicantu. This is where Jesus was sentenced to death. The room was underneath the church where he was held.

Walked back to the hotel for shower and dinner.
