Amalfi coast

We are starting our day early and going down the Amalfi coast with Wendy and Bob and a driver, Gianluca.
Here we leave Sorrento behind. you are looking towards Naples. It isn't a clear day unfortunately but it isn't raining either..
It is a long way down and if you can find the blue spot, it is a fishing village. You can only get to it by walking and it takes awhile.

                                                      David and Gianluca

These two pictures are of the village that we drove by on the side of the road recreated in mini scale.

An ancient seaside town and a large fishery.

We drove from Sorrento to Positano to Amalfi to Ravello and up to Scala.

Scala - 400m above the sea. It is known for its chestnuts.  Scala means "Steps".  The gardens have been terraced all up the slopes.
                                                 Lots of terracing.
 Best ride in town.
This is in the town of Ravello. I bought two little espresso cups here that have lemons on them.

I am not sure where this was a long the way. It was so beautiful you didn't know where to look.
This church The Basilica of the Crucifix, is in Amalfi and is the "Amalfi Romanesque"( a mix of Moorish and Byzantine flavors) built in c. 1000-1300.  A 1000 year old Bronze made in Constantinople was given by a wealthy merchant.
Inside the church in the floor below the sanctuary, they were painting and repairing the frescoes. Look up at the top and you will see her painting. Here is the crypt of St Andrew where it is believed to hold his remains. St Andrew and St Peter left their fishing nets to become the original  "fishers of men"

This is just one of the many beautiful things here
.. The main church is below.

To the bottom left is a town. Hopefully you can see all the buildings tucked into the hillside.

They are working hard....
We were just driving on this road!!! Fortunately we weren't aware of how far the road extended beyond the cliff.  The road is unbelievable and you certainly can't drive and watch the view. Two buses passing each other- one backs up.

The beautiful alleys of Positano. We walked down to the church then down to the water.

I found these pine-cones very unusual with their white dots.
 Positano

Lunch at the top of one of the many hill tops we climbed to. It was a divine lunch as you can see on the left.
....And the view on the next picture.

As we come down the hill and around and around, we can see all these nets curled up just waiting to cover the olive trees here.
I only showed a few of the many breath-taking views I took.  As my friend told me a picture is worth a thousand words..
Ciao :-)
