Afternoon of first day in London

We start our afternoon again on the hop on hop off tour bus.

This picture is the Lambeth Palace which is the residence of the archbishop of Canterbury since 1207.

The Marble Arch was designed for Queen Victor for Buckingham Palace but the Queen didn't like it so she had her carriage design bigger than the archway so she didn't have to use it.  It is now rests on Oxford Street.

The Star Dome which is part of the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.   The Madame began her career making wax fugures at the court of Louis XVI in France. She was asked to make death masksof victims of the guillotine. Some are still on display here. She came to England in 1802 and this building was opened in 1884.- just 127 years ago...I have a hard time thinking about how old things are here.

Waiting to enter the exhibit.  You will know my dates on the following pictures!

David was able to find a friend too!!

These are just a few of the many many figures..

This is Regent street layed out beweent 1813-1825 in John Nash's grand design. Man of buildings have since been rebuilt.  One of the famous stores on this street is Hamley's Toy store.  We didn't have time to go in.

Another famous building on this street in mock-tudor desing is Liberty's store
.

Her Majesty's theatre.

Trafalgar Square. From the moment we arrived there were all kinds of  things set up for the big game -NFL the Chicago Bears.

I put this picture in for my grandchildren who love every kind of sports. This was also in the square.

We ended our day having dinner at Sherlock Holmes Restaruant. Below is a room that was set up as a recreation of the great detective's study and bedroom based on the descriptions from his books.

So tomorrow is another busy day.  Cheerio:-)
