White sands, Giant Causeway -Day 3

This first picture is where we had supper the night before. It is called the Nook which is an old school house.

I forgot to write our directions we were given in Enniskillen which we found funny.  They were:
"when yous  get to the last traffic light- turn left.  Then you can get out and wallow around."
Got to love those sayings!!
White Park Bay to the right.

Off to theGiant's causeway but first we back track to find the Dunluce Castle.
This castle perched atop a basalt crag was the home to the MacDonnell family from the 16th century. Part of the castle including the kitchen, collapsed into the sea in 1639 taking seven servants and that night's dinner. A terrible interuption!

A narrow bridge leads from the mainland courtyard to the main part of the fortress.  Below the path leads from the gatehouse to Mermaid's cave beneath the castle crag.

On to the causeway.

In the"washroom and toilet" I had to laugh and took a picture of this sign.  After walking out on the rocks I can appreciate the sign!

The first formation we see as we walk down to the countless hexagonal basalt columns. The scientic explanation for these rock formations of 60 million years ago was when a thick layer of molten basaltic lava flowed along a valley in the existing beds. As the lava flowed and cooled it hardened from the top and bottom inward creating a pattern of hexagonal cracks at right angles to the cooling surfaces.
I wrote about the legend of the giant McCool in my 2011 blog attached to this site.

I was cold and very windy. It was hard to stand out on the rocks which were also slippery, right Ellen?!!

In this picture if you look center and towards the top, you will see the giants Chimney tops. And below you will see in the middle the Giant's organ pipes.  The next picture down has it up closer.

The giant's boot showing in both pictues.

It gives you an idea how big these are when you see people in the pictures.

Coming into Ballymena to a quick stop before we come to Belfast.

We are staying at the Ibis which is in the middle of town on Castle street. But for the night out to the pub, Ellen had to go tothe Duke of York. So here we are in the alley.  It isn't easy to find. and getting home wasn't much better.  "We hopped about."

Good friends, good beer, great bar, but we couldn't hear the music. :-(  That is what Ellen really wanted.....well..

Pictures say a thousand words..
The parking lot..nice

So once we did this.. we could always get a cut of coffee from below!

So Cheerio :-)
